THE BACKSIDE LEARNING CENTER

The Backside Learning Center, previously called the Klein Family Learning Center, is an initiative of the Kentucky Derby Museum. The Board of Directors of the Museum, along with Churchill Downs, made a choice to go beyond their obvious mission in order to serve and actively participate in the civic, economic and educational opportunities of the backside workers at Churchill Downs. This initiative started with the renovation of the old racing offices, which now house the The Backside Learning Center.

The Backside Learning Center's programs strive to improve the care horses receive, reduce the number of injuries to horses and humans, and increase the self-esteem of backside workers.
